What are crowns?
Dental crowns are used to cover a damaged, decayed or discolored tooth. Unlike a dental veneer, a crown completely covers a tooth above the gum line. If a tooth is missing a significant amount of structure above the gum line, a crown is the best treatment choice. Crowns give damaged teeth extra strength so they can function normally again. At Mize Implant and Family Dentistry, we use high-tech porcelains (dental ceramics) to create crowns that are virtually indistinguishable from natural teeth.
What is bridgework?
Bridgework is done when we are completely replacing a missing tooth. Bridgework generally involves using three crowns to span the area of a missing tooth. Two crowns sit on the healthy teeth on either side of the missing tooth, while the third is placed in between them on an implant. The use of crowns and bridgework is the best way to repair and replace broken, chipped or missing teeth. If you’ like to discuss a treatment plan, please contact our dental clinic in North Raleigh.
